PUNE: Social crusader
Anna Hazare on Thursday received support from none other than Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar who said she was supporting Hazare because the country needed to be freed from corruption.
The melody queen has used the popular microblogging site twitter to express solidarity with the Gandhian.
Lata Mangeshkar's comment in Hindi said, "I don't understand politics, neither am I interested in it.
But it is absolutely necessary to free our country from corruption and, hence, I am supporting Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement. Jai Hind."
The Anna wave continues to elicit reactions from celebrities and commoners alike on twitter on the third day of the Gandhian's indefinite fast for a strong Lokpal.
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted a quote that read, "You can jail a revolutionary, but you cannot jail the revolution. ~ BS ... Chairman BPP," and another saying, "Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed ~ Martin LK."
Author Chetan Bhagat wrote, "Anna gets Ramlila Maidan. Anna:2 Govt: 0. Matchpoint."
Supporter Ankita Gaba asked, "Can we bribe the Indian government to pass the Jan Lokpal bill?"
